 (WIF) is the current leader of the Solana meme coin rankings. Launched in November 2023, WIF features a picture of a cute dog wearing a hat. WIF is among the earlier Solana meme coins that have driven the rise in its blockchain's popularity for these assets since late 2023/early 2024.

Until late February 2024, WIF had been a relatively minor coin within the overall crypto industry and Solana ecosystem. At the tail end of February, the coin began to rapidly appreciate, igniting the initial sparks of the Solana meme coin frenzy. Between Feb 24, 2024, when it traded at a level slightly below 30 cents ($0.2974), and Mar 31, 2024, when it climbed to an all-time high (ATH) of $4.83, the coin grew by 1,524% 

 a spectacular growth rate that WIF owes both to its enthusiastic user community and the overall rise in interest in Solana meme coins.

Although WIF's price has retreated from its March/April highs, it maintains a category-leading market capitalization of around $2.58 billion, trading at $2.59 on Jul 26, 2024.

 (BONK) is often referred to as the original dog-themed Solana meme coin. Although its launch occurred well before the active phase of the Solana meme coin mania, which only set in on a grand scale in early 2024, BONK was the first coin to help popularize Solana as a key alternative to Ethereum for meme coin issuers.

The entire first half of 2024 proved to be highly successful for the coin. In early March 2024, at a time when Solana-based meme coins were taking the market by storm, BONK reached its ATH of $0.00004547. It then quickly dropped off these highs, but was back hovering around the $0.00004 level by late May. It currently trades at $0.000028, and has the second-highest market cap among Solana meme coins at around $1.97 billion.

 (POPCAT) is a cat-themed project that allows users to create and share their own meme coins. The coin is based on a viral internet meme depicting a cat named Oatmeal. In the meme, Oatmeal's image with an open mouth is edited to shape it like the letter “O”. Popcat also features a simple clicker game where you 

 to let its mouth pop “O”, with the clicks added in real time to accumulate as part of a worldwide total.

Launched in December 2023, POPCAT began climbing confidently in price and market cap rankings in March 2024. However, it wasn't until July 2024 that the coin entered the top echelon of Solana meme coins. On Jul 21, 2024, POPCAT nearly approached the psychologically important $1 billion market cap level. 

Its current market capitalization is $846.5 million, and it’s the third-highest-capped Solana meme coin, behind WIF and BONK. POPCAT's current price is $0.8488.

 (MEW) is a meme coin created to overthrow the dog-dominated meme coin world. MEW's spellbinding story — its cat character as superhero, seeking to save his friends from the evil dogs reigning over a futuristic world — and its innovative tokenomics have piqued the interest of investors. MEW’s tokenomics are cleverly crafted to boost its potential value by burning 90% of its total token supply as 

Launched in late March 2024, MEW is a newer player in the Solana meme coin niche. Within five days of its launch, it skyrocketed to a market cap of $685.2 million. While it slumped shortly after achieving its ATH in March 2024, MEW recently emerged as one of the 

 in July 2024 to become the fourth-biggest Solana meme coin project by market cap. MEW currently trades at $0.0077 and has a market cap of $685.43 million. 

 (BOME) project aims to provide a platform for storing and sharing memes. As such, Book of Meme is quite different from most other meme coins, thanks to its meaningful real-world functionality.

Similar to MEW, BOME was launched in March 2024, surprising both crypto analysts and the Solana community when its market cap catapulted from virtually nothing on the day of launch (Mar 14, 2024) to over $1 billion just three days later. Since its spectacular debut in mid March, BOME has been among the highest-capped Solana meme coins. Although the coin no longer features those +$1 billion market cap levels, it's still among the leading coins in the niche, with a current cap of $571.66 million. BOME currently trades at $0.00818.

While dogs and cats seem to be the most popular animals for Solana meme coin themes, monkeys and apes — traditionally revered in the crypto community since the days of the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) — have been going nowhere.

 (PONKE) is a Solana meme coin themed around a monkey described as a "degenerate gambler with anger issues." The coin was launched in late December 2023, and soon afterward it received endorsements from crypto influencers and fervent support from its social media fan base — the “Ponke army.” 

In early May 2024, PONKE's price and market cap grew rapidly, quickly establishing it as one of the leading players in the Solana meme coin market. On May 9, 2024, the coin's market cap stood at just $65 million — and only two and a half months later, by Jul 26, 2024, that figure had grown nearly fivefold to reach $312.4 million. PONKE currently trades at $0.5964.

 (BILLY) is a meme coin represented by a cute puppy named Billy, a playful twist on the word "billions," as it aims to be worth "

ions." It was launched recently (mid June 2024), and started making waves within two weeks of its launch, shooting up from a low of $0.0266 on Jun 27, 2024 to reach $1.19 by July 6. BILLY continues to stay strong in its uptrend, achieving an ATH of $0.2315 as recently as Jul 21, 2024. Currently, it’s the eighth-largest Solana meme coin by market cap at $172.05 million, trading at $0.1865.

Remarkably, BILLY achieved this success without any apparent use cases or activity on its website, which is developing a Billy meme generator. Users can create their own memes to further enhance the coin’s appeal within the community. When this generator bot is unveiled, BILLY is expected to jump to new heights — and possibly take a seat among the top five Solana meme coins.

 (MICHI) is a Solana meme coin themed around a cute cat named Michi. The Michi cat is depicted in numerous memes on the project's website, wearing various outfits, reading a book and playing musical instruments.

Launched in April 2024, MICHI started attracting the attention of meme coin traders the following month. By late May, the coin's market cap nearly touched the $200 million mark before intense competition in the field led to a fourfold decline to about $50 million one month later. By late July, however, MICHI was confidently on the way up, recovering to a market cap of $159.9 million. The MICHI coin currently trades at $0.2818.

If the avalanche of cat- and dog-themed meme coins has become boring for you, you might like the bull-themed Mumu the Bull (MUMU) coin. While it’s a classic meme coin without real-world utility, Mumu the Bull still pursues a noble and rather rebellious mission: "To dethrone the establishment and forge the ultimate decentralized currency."

Launched in March 2024 at a time when many other Solana meme coins hit the market, MUMU attempted to ride the wave of the niche's popularity. Between its launch and our review date, the coin has largely been on a long-term uptrend, although with frequent local ups and downs in its price journey. While many Solana meme coins are off their historical peaks, achieved either in March/April or late May 2024, MUMU is scaling heights it hasn't seen before.
